I’m a simple social innovator on a quest to discover the emerging system of Child Welfare that is shifting toward a wholistic family-based care approach. The Goal: to see more kids thriving in families and more families thriving in community. As Director of Design and Innovation at 1MILLIONHOME I help discover and scale solutions that are helping kids thrive in families.I’m currently assigned to the country of Kenya where the world is watching a new system of care emerge. In July of 2022, the Kenyan Government signed into law a new Children’s Act which no longer views long-term institutionalization as a solution for children in Kenya.I’m collaborating with WezaCare Solutions, a Kenyan NGO, whose on mission to impact the most vulnerable children in Kenya. We do this by championing residential institutions who are ready willing and able to transition or enhance their services toward family and community-based care. This allows the children in their care to safely reintegrate with a family member or adoptive family in the community. As Director of Design and Innovation I oversee three departments: Applied Research, Engineering and Communications. In total I serve seventeen staff members and three managers. I also work closely with WezaCare’s Consulting Team of fifteen where I help design and develop their Accelerator Program which trains people, equips organizations and nurtures networks throughout Kenya. My process for Design and Innovation includes the following:1. DISCOVER2. ANALYZE 3. INNOVATE4. DEVELOP5. IMPLEMENT6. IMPROVE 7. SHAREI believe families who find reconciliation and experience restoration will generate hope for a brighter future. I endeavor to help scale solutions in the system of child welfare by building the capacities of multiple organizations who are ready, willing and able to impact broken families with a ground-up, grace-based, relational approach.
