The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy provides Equine Facilitated Education and Therapy; using horses to develop confidence, teach core skills and also transferable life skills to young adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. I began my career at the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy as an FCRT assistant and more recently (September 2018) I became a Transition Guide. Within this role I am responsible for mentoring students with learning disabilities and difficulties on a 1:1 basis through their three year FETH (Further Education Through Horsemastership) course. As a Mentor, I facilitate my students' sense of independence and self-worth. I provide them with guidance for their futures beyond the Centre. Additionally, I support and teach them on the yard with the horses, which enables our students to play an ongoing active part in day to day equine care and management. A further aspect of my role is providing assistance with riding and vaulting sessions.
