As a part-time Quality Control staff member at Hoed Research, my job is to edit mystery shoppers' surveys so they fit the company's criteria. It also involves ensuring that the data that has been entered is accurate. This part-time role requires me to help children of all ages with their English schoolwork, and to provide them with supplementary work to help build their understanding. I need to prepare material in advance, to familiarise myself with the texts that the older students are currently studying at school. Despite this prior organisation, I also often have to think on my feet to answer students’ questions. During my studies, Paper Plus was my main employer, where I worked on a part-time basis. Now I continue to work there on Saturdays. In my time with this role, I feel that I have gained much valuable experience relating to engagement with people, organisation, and working in a fast-paced environment. This year I have had the opportunity to do some proofreading and editing work on the May and September issues of AttractHQ's 'Next Step' magazine. This magazine is designed to help secondary school students determine what they would like to aim for once they have graduated. I feel that this copywriting and editing experience has honed my ability to think quickly in a creative way, and to restructure and condense raw material into coherent paragraphs and sections. This was a part-time role I had during my first year of university. The role required me to learn information about paint products from a series of modules, and then to relay this information to customers in a sequence appropriate to their individual projects.
