    • Software Architect
      • Jan 2019 - May 2022

Developed autonomy and sensor fusion algorithms for unmanned aircraft system (UAS) project. Implemented neural network-based target detection and tracking software running in real time on onboard compute resources. Trained detection network on augmented target image set.Software lead for Guardian XT project. Created forward and reverse kinematic algorithms to support trajectory following and teleoperation from a motion capture suit. Implemented low-latency stereo vision system.

    • Senior Principle Software Engineer
      • Jan 2015 - Jan 2019

Created and maintained robot control software including distributed processing in C on small microcontrollers (ARM, PIC, and 8051), algorithms and communication in C++ on Linux-based Real Time computer, and operator control interfaces in C++, C#, and Java for Windows and Android. Implemented low-latency live video streaming and robust, secure wireless communications over multiple channels. Prototyped visual inertial odometry and stereo disparity mapping using cameras and sensors on Guardian S robot. Show less

    • Freelance Developer
      • Jul 2014 - Jan 2015

Created software to allow a client to collect and analyze sports metrics from PE classes. Building cloud-based solution to gather metrics for entire school districts. Project requires locally hosted Windows and Mac OS X applications for data capture and cloud-based web service for analysis and reporting to web front-ends and iOS and Android apps. • Senior Principal Software Engineer
      • Feb 2005 - Jul 2014

Designed, wrote, tested, and maintained software for unique robots, sensors, and medical devices. Collaborated closely with electrical and mechanical engineers. Created software for all aspects of devices, including firmware on various microprocessor architectures, real-time controllers, and graphics-intensive user interfaces. Implemented Linux-based robot central controller, including camera device drivers, video compression and streaming, I2C and RS485 joint controller busses on circuit board smaller than credit card for use in small, multi-dof unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) requiring large quantities of computing power in extremely space-constrained device. Streamlined process required to program and test new robots and significantly increased code reuse by creating standardized real-time controller and associated user interface. New robots required only addition of hardware-specific code and robot-specific control algorithms. Improved robot usability and operator situational awareness by distilling vast amounts of robot data into intuitive user interfaces that combined video, audio, and interpreted sensor data from robot. Designed and programmed low-cost robot controller architecture, using Android phone as high-level controller communicating to robot-level central controller on microprocessor implemented as Android accessory. • Sep 2000 - Jan 2005

Designed, implemented, and maintained platform upon which laboratory workflow systems were built. Member of Core Technologies group. Enabled users to track locations and available amounts of reagents, which often account for majority of cost of pharmaceutical or genetics labs by creating reagent inventory system. Facilitated lower cost version of Cimarron products by porting Cimarron infrastructure from Oracle WebLogic application server to open-source JBoss server. Provided for seamless user upgrades by writing code to automatically update data schema from one version to next. Improved test coverage by implemented automated testing tools to augment in-house QC department. Project included contributions to open-source GUI testing tool. Show less
