As Site Director for a YMCA before and after school program for Kindergarten-5th grade students, I have many roles. First and foremost, I am a lead teacher and run our daily programming for all 30 of our students. This involves running our class meetings each day, executing educational activities, assisting with homework, and having behavior conversations. I am the liaison with the Elementary School that we are based at and work with the Principal, faculty, and teachers on a daily basis to ensure our out-of-school program aligns with in-school learning. I manage my site's monthly budget for both program supplies and healthy food options for our students. At the Y I also handle the hiring process of new employees, from the initial phone screen and interview to offering the position and coordinating the on-boarding process. I manage my program's staff, made of Teachers and Teachers Aides, and support them to refine their classroom management, activity execution, and behavior management skills. I create and plan our curriculum for each month, which involves creating themes-of-the-week that align with my student's interests and 2 activities each day that cover educational areas of STEM, literacy, physical activity, and art. I intentionally plan activities that conduct conversations around mental health, unfair treatment of marginalized communities, climate change, and other sensitive but important topics. I create a monthly newsletter for all student supporters highlighting our student's work from the past month and what's to come next month. Along with the newsletter, I handle all parent conversations regarding behavior successes and areas of improvement, coordination of clubs and after school activities, and other necessary conversations. As we approach the end of the school year, I lead our Summer Camp and next year's enrollment process for all 60 incoming families. I do many jobs on a daily basis, and my students' success and happiness is at the center of them all. Show less
