January 2018 to June 2020Under the auspices of the Programs component of the Youth Reentry Network and Friends of Island Academy and under our prison initiative (Good Samaritan’s Men’s Outreach – GSMO), we have implemented Life Skills Training at the Rikers Island complex. The program services 16 to 21 year old adolescent and young adult males. The GSMO Life Skills and Cognitive Thought Development Series for the Men’s Incarceration process is designed to provide tangible Life Skills for advancement, development and successful transition to their families, schools and communities upon release.April 2009 to May 2017Supervised the recruiting, training, and oversight of a dedicated team of volunteers to mentor justice involved youth in residential facilities throughout New York State including the Ella McQueen Intake Center, Brooklyn, NY; the Bronx Residential Center, The Bronx, NY; as well as the Goshen Secure Center, Goshen, NY as part of GSMOM’s Juvenile Incarceration Ministry. Reverend Shepherd was invited and served on the Community Relations Board for both the Ella McQueen and Goshen facilities. GSMOM is a not-for-profit, Faith and Community based organization whose mission is to help restore men of all backgrounds to their position as leaders in their families and communities.

Also assists the Accounting department with reconciling billing issues or payment misapplications.

Directing Advocates as they service 16 to 21 year old participants the coordinator ensures that staff is stationed at identified housing areas and work to initiate meaningful trust building engagements, initiate family outreach to ensure connectivity between participants their families and support with vital resources and services e.g. litigation services, educational and housing resources when they return to their communities.The Youth Reentry Network (The Network) is a newly created Demonstration Project developed in collaboration with the New York City Department of Correction to pilot, implement and evaluate the feasibility and impact of an innovative system of expediting, discharge planning and reentry/aftercare support for the youngest people housed in DOC custody.

Accredited by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP), the National Association of Youth Chaplains (NAYC), is a not-for-profit youth chaplaincy program developed by Rev. Dr. Alfred Correa. Rev. Shepherd also serves on the Board of Directors with NAYC.

The program is based on the Cognitive-Behavioral Model (CBT), and utilizes Evidenced-Based Cognitive-Behavioral treatment materials — specifically, MRT®. The Osborne Association has successfully used cognitive behavioral therapy in different forms for nearly 10 years, and continues to garner transformative results as we positively implement MRT.
