  I design curriculum and teach courses in Jazz Piano and Jazz Arranging.Jazz piano students learn how to create solo piano performances from lead sheets as well as improvise on the blues form and jazz standards. I provide students with the tools to develop their harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic vocabulary for playing jazz piano playing both in small groups and as soloists. The end of the semester culminates in a workshop performance with a Juilliard trained jazz musicians.Jazz Arranging students learn how to write for 2 to 5 horns along with rhythm section and have the opportunity have their arrangements recorded by Juilliard-trained jazz musicians. Students study arrangements and compositions by jazz masters such as Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Benny Golson, Melba Liston, Gerry Mulligan, and Bob Brookmeyer as models for various arranging techniques.
