As laboratory information systems lead for the Global AIDS Program informatics team, responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of laboratory information systems for public health use in countries in Africa and other areas that have a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Lead laboratory data management/information systems team using an information architecture approach for Uganda’s National Sero-Behavioral Survey 2004-2005 that involved testing for 18,000 adults and 8,000 children and liaison between laboratory team and Uganda AIDS Commission Overseeing operational aspects of a laboratory information system supporting Uganda’s Home Based Care clinical trial from 2003-2005 involving 1,373 HIV infected individuals and 4,601 of uninfected family members Implemented Epi Info based LIS in a TASO laboratory at Mulago hospital, Kampala, Uganda that was subsequently scaled up to all TASO sites Technical assistance to laboratories supporting HIV care and treatment in Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kenya, India and Ivory Coast including providing guidance on appropriate tools and technologies and developing system specifications to be used by the sites for modification or new development Served as LIS expert consultant to World Bank for evaluating LIS activities in Brazil Provided leadership on development of international guidebook for LIS implementation to APHL and CDC Atlanta Collaborated with informatics and lab staff in several countries, both in Africa and Asia, to ensure that lab information systems comply with best practices Show less
