Due to lack of jobs after my studies in 1996 I participated in a course at the university to get to know how to start ones own firm. After the course I started Kilian Water in March 1997 and established both constructed wetlands, rainwatersystems. In 1998 was a breakthrough with making the first 'loop': treated wastewater together with rainwater got reused in a house in Bennekom. We even reached the Dutch television with it. In 1999 I married a Danish girl, Linda, and moved to Denmark in may 2000. After visiting the language school I built the first 'loop' in dec. 2001. Due to legislations it was difficult to continue, but in 2005 guidelines were arrived for construction of vertical flow constructed wetlands (VF-CW). in that year we built 3 systems; the year after 8 ; than 18 and so on. In 2011 we reached more than 100 in one year with a record of 1 each workingday in november. We built vertical flow constructed wetland with recirculation, which is rather new in this field. In the meanwhile I got help from 4 other persons: Linda is running the office, Jens Pors is coordinating an EU-project called iMETland and is establishing systems; Jan Wubs is doing control of those systems having requirement for fosfor-removal. Finally Gerold Klaus helps on the stock preparing systems. Our first EU-project was SWINGS and is just finished here in february 2016. It was also about creating a loop: wastewater from 1000 PE, from a university in Aligarh (AMU) got treated by 4 Constructed Wetlands with the intention for 100% re-use. The configuration exits of a UASB, VF-CW including reciculation, a horisonal CW and finally a solardriven filtration to remove patogens. Ca. 90 % of the water gets reused for irrigation purposes; 10 % for drinkingwater purposes. Show less
