I edit long (600+ page manuscripts so far) academic monographs for clarity and correctness. The work so far has been very interesting, and I really enjoy making positive contributions to an author's work. I have done work for UNC Press, BNA, and the Land Trust Alliance, among others. My primary responsibilities were to select, transcribe, and annotate primary documents from National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) files to form the thematic chapters of a documentary volume. I also composed analytical introductory essays to the chapters under my responsibility, drawing on the documents and relevant secondary literature. I performed individual and two-person oral proofreading, and gave constructive critical feedback on the work of fellow editors. I also pursued necessary additional research in NARA files and in secondary sources. In addition, I created a reference guide for the 1865 and 1866/67 sessions of Congress as transcribed in the Congressional Globe. As freelance editor, I prepared the index for the Project's volume of edited historical documents in publication, as well as proofreading its essays and checking its references Show less
