I had the privilege of leading an amazing team of communication and engagement practitioners in change projects at Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. We dealt with non-infrastructure agency-related project - big, small, multi year, multi week, internal, external. The team grew and contracted in size depending on the projects - and I had change projects that I carry out the engagement and communications planning and implementation when needed.

I worked with a fabulous team of people within Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency's Wellington Regional Office, focusing on communicating the many and varied roading projects. These infrastructure projects ranged from Gisborne across to Taranaki and down to the Top of the South (Marlborough, Nelson and Tasman). An eye opener for me, in my first government role, was to learn that nearly every new kilometre of state highway, every new bridge, every new interchange also had space for non-motorised transport (like bikes and ebikes). After all, like motorbikes, the riders are more vulnerable than car drivers who generally have four walls, a floor and a roof around them! Show less

    • A ski-then-travel sabbatical
      • Jul 2014 - Mar 2015

I left VTNZ due to a burning desire to travel NZ while young, fit and healthy. Initially skiing Turoa then tiki-toured around Tasmania followed by time in both the South and North Islands, seeing places I had only visited as a child, or had never visited. We completed two more “Great Walks” (Whanganui River and Tongariro Northern Circuit) so only Abel Tasman and Rakiura stand in the way of finishing all nine. • Marketing & Communications Manager
      • 2007 - Jul 2014

Managed short and long term strategy for VTNZ’s market with its main focus on Warrant of Fitness purchases (over 1m residential and business customers). Executive Leadership Team role reporting to the Chief Executive.Monthly written and oral presentations to the VTNZ Board led to real and tangible wins for VTNZ and for its customers with Fly Buys for VTNZ’s residential customers. Also wrote the business case to consolidate to one brand, then project managed the changeover. In a commodity market like vehicle safety, spending money on having two brands isn't necessary. My love of technology and numbers meant I was part of the IT Steering Committee which lead to an increased focus on the importance of data. • Marketing Manager
      • May 2005 - 2007

Managed the delivery of new business and retention targets for VTNZ's two brands (VTNZ and On Road) ensuring cost efficient growth in market share. I also helped the team implement a vehicle-centric customer database at no additional IT cost, allowing more effective and measurable direct customer communication as well as redeveloped and launched new websites – content fully managed within VTNZ. My numbers-focus meant I introduced budget management for the marketing team - the result was accurate forecasting of marketing spend, a first for the company. Show less
