Renee was a teacher of mine back when I was in high school. Some teachers can be what drag you down and make school miserable and others can be the wind that pick you up and help you succeed. She is one of those teachers that will stop at nothing to help her students succeed, even if that means putting in her own resources, long hours, and weekends to make her classroom extra special. Her character shines through in everything that she does. Each day her students know that she shows up for them. She treats her students like they are her own children long after they are out of her classroom. She has a saying that has stayed with me for a long time - "I love you with no strings attached." She really does mean that. No matter what background you come from or how many times you come in late and overworked, she was willing to work with you if you were willing to learn.

Renee is an enthusiastic, hard working scorer on my currrent project. She is a problem solver, helping me with any sound system issues and full of knowledge and helpful hints about sound projection for a large room of near 100 people, as well as figuring out the best way to be an accurate scorer with a good production rate.

I do my own art and have been successful at it, at least in my own mind. I do mixed media canvas and sculpture as well as the ever transitory set design and painting. I'm good at sculpting light around a set or as a setting. I've made puppets, books, fountains (designed as non-functioning and only as decoration) and bits of 1953 era back yards for a show in Stillwater. I have made jewelry for weddings and funerals, graduations and just because. I am currently studying 9-10th century Nordic pottery and have won a grant to go to Sweden in June 2022 to study under a master potter and potter around a few archeological sites in Sweden and Denmark. I had several titles at Dugsi Academy. I started off as a Title One Reading and Math teacher for a Somali K-8 audience. I did that until the beginning of my second year when I became the Title One Coordinator. I coordinated the reading and math teachers and support staff for reading and math interventions as well as doing interventions myself. I took over the library in January of 2016 and started building it up from a heap of books on the floor of a room stuffed with broken things. As school administration changed, my role changed, too. We moved the library to another building in order to accommodate more family interventions as part of the Title One interventions. I started Cheetah Tracks, the school magazine in December of 2017 as a Title One communique to stakeholders. When the library was moved back into the main building, I built it up for the third time in a much smaller space. My title changed to Media Center Coordinator. I culled many books students weren't reading or titles so out of date as to be antiques. I replaced all those culled books with new books, graphic novels, and interesting nonfiction. I brought the list of titles up to nearly 6,000 with a book population of nearly 10,000.Part of my job included expanding Cheetah Tracks to include more and more student work. By the time I left, Cheetah Tracks was edited by me, but most of the content was supplied by students and staff. It was an excellent platform to showcase the excellent work our students and staff were doing to expand our student's minds. Show less
