NIFARP: the Netherlands Industrial Fighter Aircraft Replacement Platform NIFARP. NIFARP was established at the end of 1996 with the goal to achieve the best possible involvement of Netherlands industry in the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 replacement programme. The preferred solution to achieve this long term and high tech involvement is by means of early participation in development, production and sustainment of the weapon system of choice, as opposed to conventional offset. An extensive comparison of candidate systems lead in 2002 to the conclusion that the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter provides the best value solution for the RNLAF F-16 replacement requirement. As a result, The Netherlands joined the JSF Systems Development & Demonstration (SDD) program in June of 2002 as a Level 2 participant. Currently 9 countries are involved in JSF SDD, as well as two security cooperative participants. Show less
