In The Darkest Hour is a World War II action drama set during the invasion of France in late May 1940.Two Scottish soldiers – Hamish McNeill & Gordon McGregor – are stranded in German-occupied territory and decide on a bold plan to get out of trouble: they will swop their uniforms for civvies and set off on foot for the British lines. However, they have not gone very far before their dislike of each other flares into open conflict and they tumble together down a hill right into the path of a German patrol. It is now that Hamish’s native Gaelic tongue comes to their aid, confusing the German soldiers and buying them precious time to come up with a plan to fool the Germans into letting them go. Transferred to Nazi Headquarters in Berlin, they must somehow pull together to survive. If not, death by firing squad is certain.

Renate started working as a TV-crew member during her university studies. She became skilled in various aspects of media, including project management, camera operation and video editing. After moving to Scotland she started working on short film productions with students from Edinburgh Napier University. Her first short, The 6th Child, which won the Van Gogh World Cinematography Award at the Amsterdam Film Festival 2012, was also selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner 2012. Building on this initial success, she has been involved with several powerful film projects resulting in the ongoing co-operation known as Burning Horseshoe Productions. She has produced eight short films, all of which have been screened at UK-and international film festivals (Germany, France, The Netherlands). I.F (Invisible Frequencies) won the Best Thriller Category in 2013 in Amsterdam, and The Priest With Two Guns was awarded the Grand Jury Prize in 2014. Close Encounters was made particularly for the 50 Kisses competition, the short produced by Burning Horseshoe Productions, then being screened at the World Premiere of 50 Kisses in London, in February 2014.Burning Horseshoe Productions co-produced a feature thriller called The Dying Eye with the American Meditz Productions. The film was in the Official Selection for the Southampton International Film Festival and was nominated in 2 categories: Director in a Feature & Best Horror/Thriller in 2014.After attending a session on Interactive Media at the 2013 Edinburgh Film Festival, Renate came up with the idea of creating a tourist app for Edinburgh, featuring the work of local artists and game developers. The University of West of Scotland proved to be a powerful partner in this challenge. They were awarded a grant from the Scottish Funding Council's Innovation Voucher Scheme and created a successful app called Explore Edinburgh Rock 2 Rock.
