    • Development of a scanning platform, and customer support, Grenoble, France
      • Jul 2010 - Oct 2010

I developed a PHP platform to scan the Xsalto network, finding open applications and ports, storing the information in a MySQL database. The scanning was regularly repeated, the results were compared to the previous scan results to detect any discrepancy. This was in PHP, Javascript, Python, encapsulating Nmap. The Nmap XML results were parsed and put into MySQL. I migrated their webmail (Horde) from an old version, using Python scripts, and modified it to match their business needs. In addition, I did customer support work. This internship lasted 3 months (July, September, October 2011). In August I went back to Montreal for one month to work on the Hilton's wireless network, see next position) Show less

    • Intern, Development of the remote server administration platform
      • Jan 2009 - Oct 2009

I developed in PHP / Perl / Javascript / MySQL / XML a secure Web interface to remotely administer, configure automatically and update the customer's and Xsalto's own servers. I used OpenVPN to secure the remote network connections. At Xsalto's request, I cannot share the details of this application. During this internship, I also detected, analyzed and cleaned a particularly complex Web site infection for one of Xsalto's customers. I administered a Linux test server on which I deployed and configured the SELinux extension. SELinux is a security framework developed by the NSA, which tightens the security of the Linux kernel. I hardened the Apache web server with the Mod_security2 module, a web application firewall. I wrote an article about it : http://www.remi.coursimault.com/publications/ArticleModSecurity2.pdf (in French) I did several presentations to explain and share my work with both the IT department personnel and the Town Hall service managers. The server I configured was used as a testbed for the Lausanne City critical networks (police, fire department, buses, drinking water command and control) Show less
