My role as a business analyst in eKart, the supply chain division within Flipkart, was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the supply chain and leverage it to design reporting mechanisms and models to reduce key performance metrics indicative of the health of the supply chain. 1. Developed a deep understanding of the design and network of the supply chain. • Combined the on-field knowledge with supply chain principles and the in-person knowledge transfers from the existing employees and created exhaustive documentation of the supply chain, its KPIs and individual functions with the supply chain. 2. Created and deployed an automated mailer using R to publish a daily report on breach (delay in the arrival of shipment to the customer beyond ETA). • The mailer used several different filters such as region, city tier, shipment type, source-destination combinations and historical trends to raise alarms about spikes in breach in specific areas that enabled pro-active efforts to reduce breach. • It helped save breaches on several thousand shipments via early identification of problem areas. 3. Created a model to improve reliability and customer trust in the supply chain • Generated a risk score for each shipment using a weighted average of individual parameters of the shipment • Parameters used and considered include weight and type of shipment packaging, the value of goods within the shipment, number of handshakes for the shipment, time spent on each leg etc. • The parameters were standardized and applied in a randomForest to identify the largest contributors to a shipment being fraudulent or tampered with.
