At R&S Metalworks I became familiar with many power transmission devices and how they are implemented in industry. My experience at R&S Metalworks allowed me to connect the things I worked on as a fabricator and technician to the concepts and devices I was learning about while earning my bachelors degree. As a shop fabricator I built many devices commonly used in the pump and water infrastructure industry such as custom pipe flanges, lift gates for controlling water in irrigation/drainage systems, flap gates, pump intake guards, and pump bodies. I'm proficient with common manual fabrication tools such as oxy-acetylene torches, plasma torches, MIG welder, and stick welder. I often had to use a manual mill for making custom key ways and keys for securing various pump shaft components such as pulleys, hubs, and impellers. As a field technician, I assisted in the successful installation of all mechanical components at a pump station. I often coordinated cranes to lift heavy components into place where I subsequently installed the gaskets and flange bolts. I also aligned and installed rotating drive components such as pulleys, drive shafts, couplings, and belts.
