Wendy Douglas

I worked with a very passionate and dedicated Rebecca during my time at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Rebecca ran sessions for my youth programs Adulting 101 and the BTogether Talk Series. Her willingness to partner with us no matter how busy she was and her ability to take the subject matter like bullying, anxiety, or isolation due to Covid-19 and come up with an engaging and interactive session for youth was a testament to her skills and education. Rebecca has a very special way of relating to youth, she gets and keeps their attention during sessions both in person and when done remotely. She is always prepared and on time. Her knowledge of mental health has been truly reliable. Rebecca follows up with materials and answers to questions. She brings a wonderful sense of humour and a reasuring smile to the group every time we got together. Rebecca Pister is one in a million!

For the 5 years I was a member of the WAYVE (Wellness, Acceptance, Youth Voices, and Empowerment) team, Rebecca’s leadership completely transformed my life. She coached me on workshop facilitation, public speaking, knowledge translation, and much, much more. She is the reason why I and countless other youth have the confidence and skills to be leaders in the organizations we've joined since WAYVE. For the WAYVE program, Rebecca conducted outreach to local schools and organizations and kickstarted mental health workshops and events for numerous organizations. Rebecca also developed various training materials such as PowerPoints, brochures, Instagram graphics, and videos to educate youth and adults in the community on mental wellness and other topics. Most notably, Rebecca coached a team of students from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences each year on topics such as mental health, inclusion, community engagement, and so much more. She helped numerous young people on the WAYVE team navigate challenges in their lives by equipping them with the knowledge and resources they needed to thrive. She is the most incredible adult ally I have had the honour of working with, and her community outreach and youth engagement work with WAYVE continues to create positive ripples to this day. Rebecca is truly one of a kind.
