Editorial Intern
-
Jan 2020 - May 2020
In this role I read manuscripts sent as queries that have already been filtered out by agents. After reading, I completed an in depth reader report and suggested whether the manuscript should be represented or passed on. In the case of manuscripts which I believe should not be represented, I drafted personalized emails to inform the author of why their manuscript was passed on. Editorial Intern
-
Sep 2019 - Dec 2019
As an editorial intern at Dzanc Books, I wrote reader reports on manuscripts submitted to the press either in the context of agented submissions or contest submissions. These reader reports took into account factors like audience, writing style, and suitability to the press. Additionally, I created a mock list for the 2021 publishing season, keeping in mind the different demands of each season. Aug 2019 - Dec 2019
As an intern with Creative Media Agency, I reviewed queries and helped determine whether authors should be requested for further material. Additionally, I read requested material and wrote reader reports to help determine manuscripts for the agency to represent. I also read full manuscripts that were represented by the agency and wrote editorial letters to help with revision, and each week I generated tweets for the agency's social media presence. Jan 2016 - May 2016
As an editor on the fiction editing team of the Long River Review, I participated in every stage of the publication process of the literary magazine's 2016 run. The Long River Review is a publication at the University of Connecticut, and is run as a class in spring of each year and is operated by students in said class who apply in the fall semester. The production of the magazine was part training experience via the classwork, and part hands-on work in producing the magazine itself.
