Laurence Sewell

The Tropical Agriculture Association Award Fund (TAAF) supported Rebecca on her research in Malawi on "How the social embedding of production affects the price received by smallholder farmers of primary export crops: a case study of the tobacco sector in Malawi". Her research was well conducted and she produced interesting and decision-relevant findings that offered fresh perspectives on the issues of contract farming, especially in cases of inequitable relationships. Rebecca produced a well-argued presentation of her findings and conclusions at a workshop to the TAAF. Her work is highly commended.

I was Rebecca's Economics teacher during her final year at Surbiton High School. Rebecca was an outstanding student who worked diligently throughout the year. She deservedly achieved an A* grade in the subject and I am extremely pleased she chose to continue studying Economics at university.
