Arts and Science Workshop participant
-
Apr 2012 - Apr 2012
The workshop was centred on the methodologies that scientists and artists use, public perception of the arts and science and how scientific paradigms can be more accessible through art. I attained a clearer picture of how to relate scientific principles and research to non-specialised audiences, not only in writing and through speech, but by using creative media. From this I became involved in a project entitled 'Science Non-Fiction', which focused on science communication. The finalised product can be found here: http://vimeo.com/53186658 Show less

I was given the task of directing prospective students and their parents around the National Oceanography Centre (Southampton), as part of the on-going open days. I showed great inter-personal skills while interacting with the groups, allowing the quieter students to come out of their shells. My enthusiasm and passion for my interests came across and really instigated a great rapport with individuals and I was told I even provided some with inspiration. My work here entailed enhancing and initiating learning through play, with young children with disabilities. I had to be imaginative and creative, to constantly meet the ever changing needs of the children. While also being responsible for the children and keeping their safety paramount at all times. This job therefore enhances my ability to work in a conflicting paradigm, a skill I believe to invaluable.
