I have worked primarily for the Sunday Tribune during my time at Independent Newspapers, although the sub-editors have periodically been pooled and we have subbed for all titles in the group, prioritising copy according to deadline. I have recently been moved to the Tonight entertainment supplement, laying out the product nationally. Before this I did layout for the Sunday Tribune, Independent on Saturday and a little for the Mercury when working extra shifts on sport for them. Although I sub mostly news and entertainment, I have also helped with subbing and revising sport when needed. I can do etches and have other limited Photoshop skills, which have served me (and colleagues) well at work. We are also required to make copy web and app compliant. I wrote a travel story after going to watch turtles hatching at Bhanga Nek, which was well-received. Show less

Sub-editor

I started working at the Witness on the night shift as a dash sub-editor, and was asked to apply for the permanent position when one became available. As a sub-editor we were required to edit news, business and sport. After about six months, the position of sport sub-editor became available and I was asked to fill the position because of my good sports knowledge. This position included the laying out and subbing of the sport pages, and subbing of news stories if time allowed for it. We were also all required to update content on the Witness website once pages were finished. Show less
