Working with Dr. Kevin Walby to design and carry out a qualitative research project on representations of police in different media platforms. In a leadership role, I was first responsible for selecting the research topic and designing the proiect. Broadly, our project looks at how different media (social media, news media, ATIP documents) represented Wetsu’wet’en land defenders in the late 2018/early 2019 struggle and subsequent heavily-armed RCMP arrests. Responsibilities have included: data collection (submitting an ATIP request to the federal government; gathering initial data set via online database); carrying out open-coding for content and discourse analysis; gathering and synthesizing literature; conducting in-depth data analysis; and writing the discussion. We have submitted this piece to the Journal of Canadian Studies for peer-review.
