The first event assigned to me was a memorial service, and although it ran very smoothly, I was worried I might be off to an auspicious start. Thankfully, I was wrong, and since then, I have had the opportunity to plan and coordinate a number of amazing events. I have worked with harried and exhausted tour managers ensuring Bill Maher, Bobby McFerrin and the Indigo Girls had amazing experiences at our Hall. I have also worked with corporate and event clients in our beautiful lobby spaces, creating spectacular parties, such the Spirit of Toronto Whisky Gala and the US Consulate's Independence Day and Pan Am Games Celebration.

    • Front of House Coordinator and TSO Liaison
      • Dec 2011 - Feb 2015

Working closely with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's Marketing and Corporate Sponsorship teams, we coordinated and executed over 160 successful events, including intimate cocktail receptions for corporate clients, such as HSBC and Air Canada, to large-scale fundraising galas. Working with various departments, vendors and other stakeholders, I functioned like an information kiosk, dispensing relevant information to all parties, answering any and all questions, and asking my own pertinent questions in return.

A position in which I work everywhere and do a little bit of everything. One day, I might be the on-site coordinator for a wedding at Todmorden Mills or a photo shoot at Spadina House, and the next, I might be working concessions for an pop-up museum at the St. Lawrence Market or wrangling people for an outdoor Shakespearean performance. Each day is different from the next, and I always have to be ready to go with the flow and learn on my feet! A position in which I work everywhere and do a little bit of everything. I was a stage manager and liaison for a wide variety of events. I did everything from marshaling parades for the Japanese Consulate to coordinating Iron Chef-style competitions to stage managing troops of giant dancing Korean dolls. My best moment at this job (and maybe in my entire life) was when Bram (of Sharon, Lois and Bram) told me I'd done a fantastic job coordinating their concert. Whatever our Producers needed, I did it! I arranged and provided backstage catering for dance troops. I set up L'Oreal Branded lounges and activations nightly across the city. I acted as a bouncer for a VIP section of a free k.d. lang concert. Yes, I did it all. Whatever our Producers needed, I did it! I arranged and provided backstage catering for dance troops. Every day, my team and I loaded in 400 school children safely in to the theatre for a performance, and ensured they all left in the same condition in which they arrived. I also planned Opening Night parties, ensuring there was plenty of cake and juice for all! 200 musicians, dancers, actors and artists. 60 000 patrons. 3 days. During this short contract position, I worked directly with all 200 artists, drafting their contracts, booking their flights and accommodation, arranging their backline requirements, creating their schedules, paying them....During the Festival, one of my artists told me I was so calm under pressure and so organized, I should be running hospitals. 200 musicians, dancers, actors and artists. 60 000 patrons. 3 days. Another short contract where I have to learn quickly and run independently with tasks immediately in this multifaceted role. I arrived three months before the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, and was immediately tasked with assisting the two-person team coordinating the Cultural contingent we were sending to the games. Soon, I was producing a preview performance in Whitehorse, while simultaneously drafting contracts, booking travel and accommodation, creating welcome packages, assembling schedules, and coordinating payments. At the same time, I was working as the assistant to the CEO and the Board, creating board packages, taking meeting minutes, arranging board retreats, and working on budgets and grants. This position, more than any other, taught me how to prioritize, juggle tasks, and organize my time. It also taught me the importance of layering my clothes - of course, my 7-months in Whitehorse had to be over the winter!

  • The Canadian Stage Company

    • Front of House Manager & Dream Site Manager
      • Jun 2008 - Nov 2009

Overseeing a small staff and a large contingent of volunteers, I ran three venues, sometimes simultaneously! Working to ensure we always provided exemplary front-line customer service, I created training manuals and critical paths, and streamlined processes for future Managers, while staying under staffing budgets while maximizing concession revenues. The best part of this position were the two magical summers I got to spend in High Park. We had to build a theatre space from the ground up, contending with mosquitoes, port-o-potties, and garbage strikes. We also got to see people experiencing Shakespeare, some for the first time and some for the fiftieth time. Not a night went by when someone didn't tell me how much the Dream meant to them. I also got to indulge in my love of trivia nightly, quizzing the teenage volunteers with our Trivial Pursuit cards!
