KSDE serves up over 60 secure web applications to school districts and various groups across the state. What started out as a short-term contract to help with project turnaround has lead to a position that taps my engineering and strategic skills in all the best ways. Zeratec has an unapologetic agenda - to change the nature of computing. There are so many defects in computing and communications technologies - generating problems that have haunted us for decades. Despite what the industry said, Web 2.0 didn't fix the flaws - nor did grid computing, utility computing, cloud computing, or virtualization. Remember all the great promises? The weaknesses in our technologies are fundamental. We keep building new ideas on top of old paradigms and expecting a different result. What we need is a new definition of computing.I have had the great privilege of working on this problem for over 20 years. With the help of many others, Zeratec has developed a new approach to computing. Our models achieve a singular distributed computing environment that can withstand drastic changes in underlying hardware. We've developed a new kind of computing experience that is more secure and robust than anything you can get from today's operating systems. This is the kind of change the industry needs - it's the kind of change we all need.As CEO for most of Zeratec's history, I have gained experience in so many areas. I have also seen the market evolve to become more compatible with Zeratec's vision than ever before. In 1997, people would look at us like we were crazy. Today, they want to know how soon they can have their own LifeSpace®. Surely, this is the road less traveled - but the journey is worth it.

RevitalVision has an amazing software product - it uses neuroscience to actually improve your eyesight. I was hired to modernize the offering and provide direction for its future evolutions. My tenure here really strengthened my software engineering skills as I did most of the coding myself. We gave the product a whole new look-and-feel, created the ability to support multiple languages, and deployed sophisticated reporting and tracking tools. I was also responsible for supporting the distribution channel and its users. Highlights from this experience include being able to say that I have developed a product that is used around the world, and the feedback from users about how RevitalVision changed their lives.

    • Director of Operations and Technology
      • Feb 2015 - May 2016

Ulterius designs and manufacturers powerful next-generation networking equipment. Although the original intent of my hiring was for my software engineering expertise, my diverse background lead me to become involved in operations - and its many facets. I managed product manufacturing for the company, as well as coordinating marketing, engineering, and administrative activities. One highlight from this experience was to be involved in the hardware manufacturing process - and the extraordinary amount of detail that goes into each facet.

Matrix is the maker of the Matrix Wand - an amazing device that can precision measure in 3D. I was brought on to enhance the automotive industry product and allow it to utilize the power of cloud computing. In addition to improvements in the existing software, I also developed a prototype cloud-based data repository, crafted a long-term technology roadmap, and worked with the team on business model and scalability strategies. One highlight from this experience having my "Matrix Cloud" prototype demonstrated at an automotive trade show.

    • Business Director / Chief Systems Architect

Keystone Group was created to productize the expertise of its founders in knowledge management. I was hired to help design a system that would capture institutional knowledge - implementing complex models and years of lessons learned into a comprehensive solution. I was involved in pretty much every aspect of the company. Our work involved us in homeland security efforts, and a very interesting opportunity in healthcare. One highlight from this experience was being designated as the chief architect for a public health utility venture that deployed in Washington, DC.

    • Product Manager / Midwest Sales Manager

DocuPhase had developed software for underwriting in the insurance industry, and looked to broaden its capabilities as a workflow-driven platform that would not only handle underwriting, but also claims processing and agent management. As sales manager, I got to call on several big insurance companies and learn how far behind the adoption curve the industry really was. Towards the end of my tenure, I transitioned to become the product manager where I architected the details of this aggressive solution. One highlight from this experience was single-handedly developing all of the companies marketing materials and website.

DeskStation Technology designed and manufactured extremely cool RISC-based workstations running Windows NT. They even designed a motherboard that would allow you to change out the processor - which lived on a daughter card. I was hired to run the technical support program and eventually transitioned into the marketing engineer position. One highlight from this experience was being personally recognized nationally for providing outstanding support in Video Toaster User magazine.
