  Performed independent research at Occidental College for a 10 week period over the summer through the Undergraduate Research Center, culminating in a presentation at the Occidental Summer Research Conference. My research focuses on the concept of the "ethnoburb" in Urban Sociology and the Sociology of Immigration and Assimilation, reviewing ideas such as segmented assimilation, how theories of assimilation have changed over time, and the factors and contexts behind ethnic groups assimilating into the USA. I am currently in the process of studying Irvine, California's ethnic Chinese immigrant community, to analyze similarities and differences to the ethnoburb of the San Gabriel Valley, through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the work and social lives of ethnic Chinese immigrants in Irvine, CA. My research utilizes long-form qualitative interviews and quantitative analyses of census data, and is currently continuing as I finish my senior thesis the fall semester of 2022.   For this position I completed independent research at Occidental College for a 10 week period over the summer through the Undergraduate Research Center, culminating in a research paper and presentations at the Occidental Summer Research Conference and the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research. My project focused on Chinese contemporary art and its reception and common framings constructed in the West around it. The methods I used for my research was a content analysis of media surrounding the exhibitions "Inside/Out: New Chinese Art" (1998) and "Art and China after 1989: Theatre of the World" (2017). My advising professor for my research was Professor Lyford, the Chair of the Art History and Studio Art department at Occidental College. Show less
