Synthetic biology to engineer translation during heterologous protein expression.Efficient translation is centrally important to the expresison of foreign proteins during biotechnological produciton of biologics, such as therapeutic proteins. During heterologous gene expression, the translation system can frequntly become stressed through depletion of key intermediates such as tRNAs and translation factors. To better understand translation systrem 'health', and the maintenance of a balanced gene expression system, mathematical models of translation are being used to understand the supply and demand of key intermediates such as charged tRNAs. I'm interested in understanding how foreign gene sequences impose stress on the host gene expression system, how that stress can be predicted using mathematical modelling, and managed using synthetic biology engineering of the host cell. Worked as Junior Research Fellow, project entitled “Development of high- throughput nanobiosensor for the detection of Salmonella spp. In food”at Indian Institute Of Horticulture Research (IIHR) in department of Post Harvest Technology. Foodborne diseases is one of commonest causes of death in developing countries and Salmonella is one of the commonest cause of foodborne diseases. It has become an major challenge to our health care system and also can have severe impact on society. Conventional microbiological methods and biochemical identification are time-consuming and laborious, while immunological or nucleic acid-based techniques require extensive sample preparation and are not amenable for on-site detection. Biosensors have shown tremendous promise to overcome these limitations . The objective of this project is to develop and validate a high-throughput; simple, sensitive and specific nanoparticle based ready-to-use diagnostic kit for the detection of Salmonella in food. We propose to fabricate a nanodiagnostic device, viz., Aptamer-Nanoparticle Strip Biosensor , to be tested for their suitability for specific end uses based on detection limit. Show less
