Highlights to date include performance and cost improvement work for NHS acute Trusts in areas such as : • Conducting a locum rates and spending review to identify savings of around £500k in standardisation of rates and substituting agency usage with internal locums • Supporting the development and dissemination of a Frail and Elderly Care Pathway, through workshops with clinicians and incorporating best practice in areas of ‘Active Recovery’ and ‘Discharge to Assess’. This identified critical activities by day to reduce length of stay to a maximum of 7 days (when the average length of stay was around 14 days for the patient cohort in question) • Conducting a job planning policy review and identifying key areas for update and development in principles, process, approvals, standardisation and metrics. In turn this provided a solid foundation from which to maximise value from the consultant workforce of the hospital, In terms of both direct clinical care and special planned activity time (research, leadership etc.). In response to key policy drivers and the need for the NHS to embrace cultural change through values and behaviours, I am currently project managing the development of a Talent Management approach and tools for the NHS. Premised on robust and widely accepted evidence on staff engagement and the links with patient satisfaction, this ambitious project has the potential to make a long term impact on NHS, with early piloting data indicating positive results and enthusiasm for wider roll out. Responsibilities include: • Working with NHS partner organisations and wider stakeholders to develop a nationally consistent approach and tools for Talent Management. • Co-ordinating design and delivery of talent management pilots, including development of strategies to manage risk, evaluation, budget and alignment with wider Academy programmes • Development of appropriate project documentation to track projects, manage risks and inform / update stakeholders • Developing networks to promote and share best practice and learning around talent management Show less

    • Operations Manager & Project Lead
      • Dec 2010 - Feb 2013

I project managed the successful merger of vascular units from three hospital trusts in Merseyside to create the Liverpool Vascular and Endovascular Service which now serves a catchment population of over 1 million patients, generating over 800 inpatient spells and 450 day case procedures. At the same time improving patient access to the latest interventions, reductions in the overall bed base across the participating trusts (through enhanced recovery protocols) and improved research potential for the new unit. Operational responsibilities included: • Performance Monitoring: Providing regular analysis of relevant performance information (e.g. budget data, day case and clinic utilisation data, waiting list and waiting time information) • Operational Management: Work with the senior Directorate Team (Clinical Director, Directorate Manager and Matron) and other colleagues to identify performance issues, develop and implement action plans and prepare business cases as appropriate.
