I workеd with Raushan Irgaliyeva since 2008 when she joined KPMG. Since I left KPMG and established my own company, we became business partners. We worked on many projects. When she just joined the company she had to do a lot to build up the HR function, starting from recruitment and people development to implementing HR management systems. As a Chief accountant I was actively participating in this process – together we set up IT systems to improve staff and accounting administration, including policies and procedures. Raushan has strong strategic and conceptual thinking. She can see the situation as a whole and it helps her to find long-term efficient solutions. She is well aware of IT programmes and can design optimal business processes. She is a great leader who takes responsibility, can build and develop teams herself and transfer this skill to other managers. I have known Raushan for over 12 years. For the first five years she worked for me as the Head of HR for KPMG in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. I had been the Director for Personnel for KPMG in London some 20 years previously, but when I arrived in Kazakhstan, the overwhelming majority of challenges facing me as the Managing Partner were people related. I was new to the country and hence the national culture and legislation were totally new to me. I was fortunate that Raushan was already in place and she was fundamental to addressing the issues and working with me to make KPMG Kazakhstan a successful organisation from a point, when I arrived, that it was quite possible that KPMG would withdraw from the country. Raushan has a great ability to recognise issues and work towards a solution with minimal guidance, building trust and ensuring that solutions are sustainable and permanent and that the organisation is well-placed for continual improvement. During our over five years working together, she was always innovative and unafraid to try new things, even though she may not have had experience of implementing solutions before.
