On January 22, 2002 to present day, I gained full time employment as a WG-10 as a heavy equipment mechanic at a Combine Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) and moved my why up to WG-12, Surface Maintenance Inspector. .As an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment, I ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications. Duties involve complex inspection work, requiring a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques, at remote worksites or field installations where a supervisor is not readily available and in these situations, work is performed independently and decisions are made on a wide range of subjective judgments. I have inspected a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles including fire trucks, armored vehicle, bulldozers, and road graders. I have performed tests to braking, steering, and differential systems, which are mechanically integrated with the transmission; to large engines that directly power multiple hydraulic and fuel injection systems. I have also inspected equipment to determine repairs needed I have utilizes established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic repair(s). I use a variety of factors such as cost and availability of parts, man-hours, and impact of time constraints on the mission to assess whether repair is economical. I have made recommendations to a higher echelon to condemn equipment when the repair cost exceeds the established MEL. I have prepared lists of needed repairs, parts, and man-hours authorized to complete job order. I have also performed in-process inspections and final inspections, certifying that equipment is in satisfactory operating condition. Show less
