This research aims to advance best practices for characterizing geomaterials in the subsurface using a novel methodology combining Finite and Discrete Element Methods (hybrid FDEM). This method will be applied to understand changes in borehole pressure during DFIT/mini-frac test, related to changes in the stiffness of the borehole-fracture system, fluid leak-off mechanism etc. The research database includes tens of DFIT field tests in Alberta, alongside rock samples from target formation for material testing. Research outcomes will lead to a more realistic calculation of stresses, pore pressure, permeability etc.:· Comparing geomechanical parameters calculated by different pressure diagnostic techniques (tangent & compliance methods) to understand their reliability under different conditions· Studying the importance of leak-off, fracture processing zone/toughness, fluid viscosity, rock discontinuity & anisotropy on the borehole pressure· Conducting fieldwork alongside executing material lab testing on 10 cubic samples under the stress-controlled loading condition to calculate the transverse isotropic property in different rocks Show less

· Guided 100 students to utilize AutoCAD and 3D printing for engineering design by preparing video tutorials and online sessions; divided students into teams of 5 people to conduct their assignments and final projects led to %20 improvements in their engagement· Coordinated the model footing, Vane shear, and seepage lab tests; responsible for presenting the importance and procedure of tests and marking lab reports· Assisted 100 students in measuring strains on the cantilever beam either under tension or compression (in-person sessions); responsible for presenting how to prepare sample surface, connect wires, convert resistance changes to voltage changes using Wheatstone bridge, and subsequently calculate strain values using gauge factor· Assisted 100 students in understanding the behaviour and properties of ductile (aluminum bar) and brittle (cast iron bar) materials under direct tensile test; responsible for presenting how LVDT is used to measure displacements during the test while load cell is used to measure applied loads, how to draw stress-strain curves and distinguish the difference between ductile and brittle material responses Show less

In Redevelop Training Program I was part of a group of four students from different disciplines of Engineering, Geoscience, and Public Policy to examine the application of alternative hydraulic fracturing fluids for reducing the consumption of freshwater: · Led team to review relevant literature and communicate with industry expertise; responsible for managing schedules, performance reviews and daily tasks · Conducted statistical analysis and developed data visualizations using publicly accessible databases such as geoSCOUT and FracFocus; it was revealed that alternative fluids can improve BOE production by 20% with 80% less freshwater consumption · Developed coupled numerical models to study the characteristics of hydraulic fractures when pumping alternative fluids; it was concluded that even in some cases more extensive fractures (about %40 larger) can be induced · Successfully delivered findings through a poster, oral presentation, and an explanatory video through Redevelop annual conference, geoConvention and 27th IUGG General Assembly events where 80% of the attendees showed a strong level of curiosity and asked insightful questions about our project Show less

In a hybrid office and field work atmosphere, I collaborated with an engineering and geoscientists team of ten to address the casing collapse issue in Iranian oil and gas fields: · Reviewed relevant literature and industry expertise, and conducted a statistical analysis on the provided database by the client regarding the potential cause of casing collapse (fault shearing, salt layers creep, casing impurities, cement job, overburden displacement etc. · Handpicked over 100 core samples for candidate wells selection and intended material lab testing · Performed 10 coupled numerical analyses in Abaqus through which it was revealed nonuniform casing loading due to casing impurities, bad cement jobs, or salt creep can play a major role (over %95) in casing collapse incidents within the studied area Show less

· Studied the characteristics of simultaneous fractures developed in gas shales during hydraulic fracturing by implementing XFEM and cohesive crack techniques in Abaqus· Performed a sensitivity analysis on the parameters/mechanisms that may affect the characteristics of hydraulic fractures and verified the results against asymptotic analytical solutions with %95 accuracy· Optimized the spacing between perforation clusters during multistage hydraulic fracturing, which obtained about 50 m based on the input geomechnical data Show less
