      During my time at Kings County Hospital Center, I alternated between working at bedside and in acute rehab. Population served ranged from patients with Trauma (motor vehicle accidents, falls, Gun shot wounds, SCIs, burns and TBIs) to patients with Orthopedic diagnoses (joint replacements, amputations, fractures and surgeries), to patients with medical conditions.       With the help of my Clinical instructor from Clinical Internship 3, I have completed 32 hours (64 sessions) of providing Physical Therapy via TELE HEALTH. Each session was 30 minutes long, and conducted on Google Hangouts. Participants in the session were myself, my CI, the student, the parent, and occasionally a younger sibling or a pet.

      My third clinical internship was at two different regional DOE settings - P.S.046 and P.S.213. The ages of the children I worked with ranged between Pre K and 5th Grade. The students presented with a variety of diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Smith Magenis Syndrome, Poland Syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, Chromosome 10 deletion syndrome and a child missing 90% of his corpus callosum. My responsibilities included:- Creating appropriate interventions for each child to increase his/her ability to function within the school setting. - Creating Annual Review Plans (IEPs) to assess individual child performance via multidisciplinary team meetings.- Documenting daily notes, progress notes and clinical reports for the IEPs.- Presenting an in service.- Working in a team and building a rapport with other OTs, class room, gym, music and art teachers, and paraprofessionals.- Attending Horizon program meetings with teachers, PTs, OTs and paraprofessionals. Horizon is a specialized program that serves students with ASD.With mentorship from two clinical instructors, I was able to manage 100% of a typical caseload by the end of the internship. Show less

      My second Clinical Internship was at Marathon Physical Therapy in Great Neck, NY. This outpatient Orthopedics clinic with a manual focus primarily saw a patient population of geriatrics and adults. Patients presented with a wide range of diagnoses such as Parkinson's disease, Low back pain, Shoulder Impingement, Lateral Epicondylitis, RTC Tears, ACL tears/repairs, Meniscectomies, OA, TKA, THA, SCI and C/S Radiculopathy. My responsibilities included: - Performing initial evaluations and special tests to determine mechanical limitations and underlying pathologies. - Developing individualized plans of care and home exercise programs for patients according to their Short Term and Long Term Goals. - Conducting treatment sessions with appropriate interventions of therapeutic exercise/activities, manual therapy (Soft tissue massage + mobilization/manipulation techniques) and neuromuscular re-education. - Using therapeutic modalities such as heat, ice, low level laser therapy, myofascial cupping and hyper volt. - Performing myofascial release using rock blades made of steel, plastic and stone. - Utilizing outcome measures to determine progress of patients from initial evaluation → progress updates → discharge. - Documenting initial evaluations, progress notes, daily notes, and discharge notes. - Presenting an in service and sitting for other in services. - Working in a team and building a rapport with other PTs, PT aides, PTAs and the office staff. With mentorship from three clinical instructors, I was able to manage 50% of a typical caseload by the end of my internship. Show less

      My first Clinical Internship was at the New York Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital, in the Acute care department. Patients presented with a wide range of diagnoses such as CVA, fractures, joint replacements (TKAs, THAs), dementia, chronic heart failure, myocardial infarction, diabetes, pneumonia, cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder, spine surgery and Spinal Cord Injuries. My responsibilities included: - Performing Initial evaluations. - Managing lines and tubes. - Setting up the patient's room. - Working in a team and building a rapport with other PTs, OTs, PT aides, PTAs and nurses. - Treating patients. - Determining where patients should go after discharge. - Performing an in service and sitting for other in services. I also had the opportunity to observe an OLIF/PSSIF and ROH surgery performed by Dr Ronald Lehman -- an orthopedic spine specialist surgeon at the facility. With mentorship from two clinical instructors, I was able to manage 25% of a typical caseload by the end of the internship. Show less
