Raphael is a master typesetter, I just published a 468-page book and all I can say is his service is implacable and his knowledge will make your project a success! Will use his services again and again!

Tova Serkin

I have worked with Raphael on two major projects over the last few years and have greatly appreciated his amazing turnaround time and quick responses. His expertise also really helped guide me, someone not from the world of type-setting and publishing, and allowed us to create the best possible product given that we are not professional publishers. Raphael's customer service and expertise made working with him a pleasure!

Joyce de Jongh

We have been working with Raphael since March 2018, and find him a joy to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable and produces high-quality work. Raphael combines two important features when it comes to typesetting: he's both very accurate and also very creative. He uses his experience to help you make the right decisions to produce the best looking product that you can. His suggestions are innovative and creative but he keeps his eye on the ball and doesn't take your project off track, or waste time. Also, his knowledge for the different standards of typography for different countries is a huge asset when typesetting in different languages. Raphael has excellent project management skills which enable him to stick to timescales. We look forward to working with Raphael more, and would not hesitate to recommend him. Whilst fulfilling my duties as Executive Director at Koren Publishers Jerusalem, I also ran the NewCo division. Lead the software team, comprising of software engineers and graphic designers from both within the company and talent outside, from initialisation of concept to final product on App store of iPad app. Was actively involved with the user experience of the iOS products meeting frequently with both the system architect and lead graphic designer. Prepared presentations and travelled to USA meeting with potential angels, VCs and fund-matching partners to spin-off NewCo into separate company to realise the potential of a new search technology based on ontological and semantic analysis and a user experience based on a revolutionary search model applicable for both touch (2D) and gesture (3D)-based experiences. Was responsible for all Koren book and digital projects and liaison with strategic business partners. As well as being Koren’s book designer and typeset many of its publications, I was in charge of the typesetting department; editing and research department and the iPad App development team in the NewCo division. I have overseen the management, design and typography of all Koren books, liaising with both internal and external professionals to produce world-class products. These often complex projects required a wide range of skills ranging from on one end of the spectrum of writing algorithms for external script and font programmers to the other end designing the actual page. In the middle of that spectrum the managing of processes and people who were all working on different tasks on multiple products. One of my largest projects was a 7-year project of 40 volumes which I designed both the print edition and lead the user experience team for the iPad app. I was responsible for coordinating the multiple pieces to a strictly defined unmovable schedule. When arriving at Koren, I completely updated the technology, installed new servers and backup system and initiated the move from a static page website to a bilingual e-commerce website www.korenpub.com. Along with managerial responsibilities for my departments and professional design & typography, I was involved with the company on the most senior of levels helping forge the way forward for the company in its direction with today’s challenges of the modern world. This often involved travel to the UK and USA to build links with potential partners. Show less

Returned to take upon former responsibilities of my previous tenure and in addition to update the prepress facilities and purchase of new printing press, directly reporting to the Publisher. The quarter-million dollar prepress project was implemented improving the time to press from editorial. The new $5m press project necessitated a full cost analysis and justification for approval by the parent company, Hollinger Inc. Implementation and building of new prepress department. This also required change of workflow for editorial and graphics. Over $150,000 of annual savings by various workflow streamlining projects. Procedures and deadlines were instituted in both the Daily Edition and International Edition. Relocation and merging of three different sub departments to create a “breaking news team” for the internet news team. Implemented upgrade of advertising software system which involved training and new procedures. Show less
