Nurse Assistant

Feb 2016 - Jun 2016
Working as a night nurse assistant for the regional hospital was my first medical employment. The twelve hours and a half shifts were on going from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. The medical telemetry floor was the largest and most diverse department of the hospital, which allowed me to assist patients and handle a wide variety of situations ranging from elderly to psychiatric patients. My main responsibilities were to provide the nursing staff for assistance and care for the well being for 8 to 15 patients a night. Providing solutions for the discomfort of the patient, I regularly checked vital signs, maintained safe and comfortable positioning, gave bed bath, and assured the best possible hygiene services for the hospitalized patient's.

Resident Assistant
-
Aug 2012 - May 2016
The position of Resident Assistant (RA) involves many responsibilities. Like doctors on call, RAs carry a duty phone night and day, sometimes for weeks in a row, and are the first point of contact for residents in case of emergency. In my 4 years involved, I answered calls ranging from simple roommate conflicts, to serious suicidal situations, or life-threatening intoxication. Although the position is not related to medicine, the scenarios that I encountered were the closest to emergency medicine I have come to experience. Other responsibilities were to fostering a floor community, implementing learning mediums to increase understanding of course material, and tutoring by providing educational and social programming.

University Mascot, Rowdy the Redhawk
-
Aug 2012 - May 2013
During the school year 2012/2013 I was selected to represent the excitement of the school spirit as Southeast Missouri State University’s mascot, Rowdy the Redhawk. Performing as the mascot required dedication and energy to embody the essence of the university, during athletics, greeks, or promotional events in front of thousands of people. As a symbol of the school I had the privilege to appear on national wide broadcasted events, game, ESPN, or commercials, and to be seen on publicly panels and university’s handbook. My main role were to enhance the school spirit during the game by stimulating and entertaining the large audience, as well as performing rehearsed shows during the halftime of the game. This provided me with a great deal of public exposure and helped me to work on my self-confidence.
