In a cross-functional team we develop mechatronic prototypes for cutting edge robotics research and Industry 4.0. As CTO I serve my team by involving and relying on the expertise of our people, giving them the space to develop, guiding the development of new solutions (and taking part in the development myself). We co-develop the Myorobotics (http://myorobotics.eu/) robotic toolkit, adding new and improved hardware components and software modules, as well as manufacture custom robot configurations. Applying embodied robotics, deep ai and state of the art algorithms from computer vision, computer graphics and robotics, we create intelligent agents providing the interface between the user and the information he seeks. We combine technology with intimate design, a jolt of game design for great story telling and rigorous testing to make sure the user gets the information he seeks even when technology fails. Development of an open-source, tendon driven, modular humanoid robot for neuro-robotic research - Roboy. As part of the 'Neurorobotics' sub-project of the Human Brain Project we provide a platform for investigation and verification of closed-loop models and neuro-inspired algorithms coming from brain research. With an interdisciplinary student team we are developing all aspects of the humanoid Roboy using the Robot Operating System ROS. Project supervision and planning for the students working at Roboy. The goal of the Roboy project is to advance humanoid robotics to the state where robots are as capable as human bodies. It should be just as fast, versatile, robust and flexible. Roboy acts as an ambassador for safe, easily accessible and open-source, human-inspired robotics. Being not only a scientific challenge, he is also a very well known robot and regularly advertises the Human Brain Project and open robotics initiatives, such as the MyoRobotics hardware, at his many public appearences.
