The aim of this project was to investigate parameter settings for laser surface hardening of cast iron.The objectives are as follows:- To conduct research into the pollution caused by cast iron disc brakes of vehicles.- Determine the effect of using lasers to harden cast iron as opposed to conventional methods.- Characterise hardness obtained from a range of laser parameters.- Section and etch processed samples for metallographic studies.- Investigate the hardness depth of the heat affected zones, under different laser parameters.
