Biomedical Manager / Systems Administrator

Oct 2009 - May 2013
I served in several roles at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), a Level I trauma center. My roles in Clinical Engineering included Clinical Engineering Manager, Biomedical Manager, Quality Control Manager and Subject Matter Expert / Advisor at San Antonio Medical BRAC Intergation Office (SAMBIO) during the expansion and transition into San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). I performed as Contract Office Representative (COR) managing service contracts and ensuring adherence to Performance Work Statements and Service Level Agreements. I supervised and directed accountability of over $360 million in medical equipment. I reviewed and approved purchases for 3 government purchase card holders with a repair part budget of more than $2.3 million over a 3 year period. I am extremely service oriented. I maintained a high level of customer satisfaction while simultaneously managing facility expansion and 125% growth in area of responsibility, personnel and workload. I scheduled local and on-site information technology certification training and exams for 10 SAMMC Clinical Engineering staff members. It was an initiative for Clinical Engineering to become compliant with Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8570.01M. This enabled compliant staff members to be administrators on the application and storage servers tied to biomedical equipment. This allowed our department to become more self-sufficient and productive in the maintenance of automated biomedical equipment. As a subject matter expert in Clinical Engineering at SAMBIO, I advised senior Army medical department and project management staff. I worked to ensure the success of the expansion project in regard to new and reused medical equipment integration with a focus on patient safety and resource management. I oversaw the quality control of installations and database entry of all equipment to be used in the transition of the facility. Show less

Biomedical Maintenance Manager
-
Jan 2008 - Sep 2009
I served as the Clinical Engineering manager over Biomedical Maintenance and Property Management. During this brief assignment, I still earned honors as the hospital's Non Commissioned Officer of the Year. I planned and executed a project to install a mobile network signal booster running from the exterior of the facility into the lower level. This enabled the biomedical and facilities management personnel to more promptly receive and respond to emergency on-call cell phone requests and pager alerts. I coordinated and led a project to replace 10 dental operating chairs and install 6 additional chairs at the Army Dental Clinic in Fort Dix, New Jersey. The biomedical technicians I brought were recognized and commended for their efforts to perform all work over a weekend, resulting in zero interruption in patient care. The result was a 60 percent increase in dental exam capability at the Army Reserve's mobilization and demobilization site. Show less

In the Iraq Theater of Operations, I managed the shop operations and workload distribution for 20 technicians. We performed repairs and scheduled services on medical equipment supporting the air and ground ambulance troops throughout the country. I managed communications with 6 remote Forward Distribution Teams to provide streamlined support and service to our customers. We carried an inventory of Operation Readiness Float equipment to provide an immediate swap of equipment. This methodology kept the first responders fully operational while we took ownership of broken equipment and the associated repair and downtime. Show less

Biomedical Equipment Specialist
-
Nov 2004 - Feb 2006
I led a team of eight biomedical technicians tasked to assist the 249th General Hospital at Fort Gordon, GA. We provided the unit Rear Detachment Commander all documentation necessary to clear the property book. Meanwhile recently deployed soldiers were able to enjoy their reintegration and block leave with their families. We performed technical inspections to determine disposition on its assigned property book equipment for turn in. I ensured all condition code checklists and work orders were complete and performed correctly. While deployed to Iraq as a biomedical technician, I developed a specialty in portable ventilators used in medical evacuation transport. I trained two other technicians to perform the ventilator checkout and repair procedures. We rotated 12 hour shifts to support immediate service to emergency response customers in ground and air medical evacuation units. Show less
