During the internship in tata motors I learned about engine assembly and testing of diesel engine. I also learned how quality is controlled in a automotive industry. How engine is tested and evaluated on different parameters. How automation and mechatronics systems play a crucial role in the productivity of industry processes. The project I complete during the internship- " FOREIGN MATERIAL IMPROVEMENT IN NEXON DIESEL ENGINE". In engine shop, engine is assembled in engine assembly line. In this line, there are two major lines cylinder head line and cylinder block line. In head line there are 16 stations (from H1 to H16) for assembly of cylinder head and In cylinder block line there are total 47 stations (From M1 to M47). A specialized air conditioning clean room is present for the fitment of injectors on the engine. In assembly line some stations are present where there is a risk of this nuts, bolts, dowel pins, are going inside the engine cavity during assembly process. To avoid this error some controls given on the station like poka-yoke, sealing caps. But at some stations this controls are not viable or sometimes operator missed to apply this control during process. To avoid this mistakes some new concept of controls are integrated on the stations that ensures operator should not missed to use or apply control during fitment of parts. In this sensors are integrated to ensure and actuate the solenoid valves and pneumatic cylinders. Due to use of this controls we minimize the risk of foreign material (nuts, studs) are going inside the engine. This type of improvement in engine assembly reduce the error occur in the engine during running condition and increase the quality, life of engine. Skills learned- 1.
