Upon becoming a NAFTA HR Director for Bayer, I was assigned to Rainer's client group. Of the (6) other Sr. VP's I represented, Rainer's group functioned beyond the boundaries of a team and operated like friends running a family business. They were serious and passionate about work and each other. As their HR Partner, I witnessed a new emerging way for teams to interact and work collaboratively. They respected me, each other and Rainer was our leader and most faithful cheerleader. He celebrated our accomplishments and he immediately addressed any performance disappointments and as I have said on many occasions, seemingly at times, working for Rainer was like getting a handshake and hug but if your performance waned, you would feel his foot swiftly up your back side.
