His depth of knowledge, practical exposure towards topics, especially Power Electronics; made him one of the top runners among his peers to deserve a research fellowship at a prestigious institute like IIT Roorkee. Following his passion for the subject and finishing his Ph. D at such a competitive institution talks volumes about his knowledge and commitment. His management of taking classes while carrying out research activities at SRM is a commendable display of his sincerity. He has demonstrated excellent expertise in power electronics and electrical machine drives, and also knowledge in renewable energy source based distributed power systems. Academically, he has strong fundamental and theoretical understanding which serve him very well in guiding graduate students or conversation with fellow researchers. In terms of research, he has an aptitude in asynchronous machine drive system, grid connected power converter systems, energy storage systems management and his proficiency is very recognizable. As a senior research fellow in power electronics and hydro-electric machine research group at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. I had developed the following hardware prototype and control algorithm for variable speed pumped storage power plants.***Developed an entire simulation model of 250 MW DFIM with five parallel connected three-level neutral point clamped back-to-back power converter (GE MV7311) in MATLAB Simulink tool in collaboration with research and development team (R&D) of Tehri Hydro Development Corporation India Limited (THDC).***As a part of research work, dynamic performance of DFIM unit under ancillary services is tested for aforementioned system.***DC link chopper and crowbar protection circuit operation strategy is implemented and tested for aforementioned system during grid disturbances.***Designed and developed leg-level redundancy circuit for 3L-NPC power converter with control re-configuration algorithm to enable fault tolerant operation for aforementioned system in open/short switch fault condition.***Seamless fault tolerant control re-configuration algorithm is designed with N-1 power converter redundancy for 250 MW DFIM to enable continuous operation. ***A detailed study on thermal behavior of power semiconductor devices is tested in PLECS environment for aforementioned system during different operating conditions (pump/generator/condenser). As a junior research fellow worked on reduction of switching transients in doubly fed induction machine used for large rated pump storage plants it is financially supported by Central Power Research Institute, Bangalore, India (CPR-949-WRC).***Performed switching transient analysis on 250 MW DFIM unit in pumping mode of operation and identifying root cause failure of drive.***Studied and implemented V/f smooth starting and braking procedure for 250 MW DFIM unit.***Developed a locked rotor starting scheme to reduce circuit breaker switching transient during pumping mode of operation.***Prepared technical documents/reports (calculations/simulation) for funding agency review. This role also includes preparing technical test documents for doing different starting tests on DFIM to validate performance of drive train as per standards by Tehri Hydro research and development team (R&D).
