Youth Engagement WorkerMentor - Contextualised Safeguarding - Targeted Services
-
Mar 2019 - Mar 2020
The main aim of this role was to develop a trusted relationship with those young people who have been identified as being at risk of or involved in Youth Violence and work with partner organisations and families to encourage them to engage with services to promote positive change. Additionally I was also; 1. One of two people in the Missing from Home Team - carried out return to home interviews and interventions. I also represented the YOT in the monthly police/intelligence meetings where we were able to share information and identify high-risk cases in relation to child criminal and child sexual exploitation. 2. Involved in the development and delivery of BLUNT project at schools - Knife-crime project. 3. Part of the development and launch of Youth Now; a pilot study/project aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and instances of young people getting involved in serious youth violence. This was a contextual approach and as a team, we did community mapping, school surveys, business interviews, focus-group interviews amongst other data collection. This was to identify the issues in different contexts that young people are involved in. This project was done in partnership with the police, the council and University of Bedfordshire. Following data collection, we successfully set up a Friday evening weekly provision for young people from the local area. 4. Supporting case managers and working one-to-one with young people on referral orders and probation. Due to this, I was also involved in strategy meetings, multi-agency meeting, child in need meetings amongst others. Show less

These seminars were delivered to year 7's up to year 13/sixth form. I was required to go to schools anywhere in the northwest and present learned scripts. Explainer
-
Oct 2017 - Apr 2018
As an explainer, I learnt scientific content for shows' or demos' to present to the public, or schools who were visiting the museum. The aim was to build science capital in children and encourage them to learn STEM subjects. I interacted with members of the public on a daily basis and during makespace' creative events, I used to take extra time with children with neurodiversities to ensure they get the most out of it. I was in the management team for the Science Festival which takes place in the city of Bradford. Other roles included, greeting public and private bookings, giving a tour of the museum and managing their activities for the day. Show less

Humanitarian Aid Worker
-
Sep 2015 - Sep 2015
I supported one of my previous employers in appealing for food and other aid. This was specifically for the huge displaced population of refugees residing in the 'jungle' and other areas of Calais, France.Once the aid was collected, we made special packages in the warehouse, loaded up vans and drove down Calais with 9 vans full of aid. Once there, we spent three days and nights visiting the people, talking to them, providing them with care packages and finally, cooking. Since Zinc Occasions is a wedding orgainsing company, we took a team of chefs with us. Once station at various camps, we cooked under supervision and served hot pilau rice and hot chicken to the residents of the camp. Many men and women from the camps happily assisted with these preparations. Show less
