Implementing firewalls with centralized block lists including a universal allow list that gets pulled from firewalls that are distributed at client sites. We essentially built in central management features onto our preferred open source router platform. We love using pfSense on FreeBSD!We're continuing to add value for clients by leveraging open source platforms like email, firewalls, and other systems we engineer. That's the difference - we're not re-sellers, we're engineers!

Systems administration, new project planning / implementation, network administration both Windows and Linux, network management* We successfully completed a migration of approximately 20 servers from Virtual Iron to VMWare VSphere 4.x, MS SQL 2005 Server, production ERP / MRP systems, warehouse management system, and other important servers.* We successfully upgraded our Dell Equilogic SAN from 2.x firmware to 5.x (current) firmware without incident! Additionally we upgraded the SAN from using 250 GB disks to 1 TB disks greatly increasing capacity on the SAN.* Successfully expanded the network subnet from a /24 to a /22 allowing more hosts per network segment, we then broke out the flat network on a defalt vlan to a few different vlans in preparation for a Mitel VOIP phone system. The switch to VOIP went pretty smoothly and network segmentation enhanced network capacity. Network switch configuration and tweaking is ongoing to optimize internal bandwidth and resources.

I worked with my corporate counterpart developing methodologies to tighten networking services such as our security model, group policies, split brain DNS model, WINS, DHCP functionality and other important core networking services at all six North American sites eliminating the diverseness of each site configuration. I functioned as an escalation contact for all concerns related to Active Directory and Microsoft Services. I co-managed Exchange 2007 Servers and our Black Berry Enterprise Server (BES). I was sent to a week long VMware ESX training, then implemented VMWare’s ESX 3.5 Server in a clustered highly available configuration with V-Motion at our Milton, ON data center. Storage for the project was on an iSCSI md3000i Dell SAN.

Exchange email management was my specialty! Desktop support, developed a Windows 2000 w/Office 97, 2000 and XP to XP Pro migration w/Office 2003 project. I picked up the project halfway and further developed an existing solution. I leveraged several scripts and Active Directory Group Policy to uninstall legacy office applications, it then installed Office 2003. I also further developed our Windows XP unattended process, it leveraged a DOS boot disk, queried the technician with a few configuration questions and installed XP Pro with Service Pack 1. I also worked with Nortel networking equipment and various other technologies.
