      1. Enrollment Recruit SEDSS participants at the Emergency Department (ED) in Saint Luke's Episcopal Hospital System (SLEH) a. Identify patients with fever or history of fever 7 days or less (inclusion criteria for SEDSS); and patients that comply with new and expanded inclusion criteria based on emerging infectious diseases. • To identify prospects, the following tools should be use: List CDC, Private Tracker Desktop, and patient electronic medical record by using MediTech. b. Respectfully approach patients and invite the ones that meet inclusion criteria to participate in SEDSS. • Explain the research project and offer educational materials. • Explain the consent form and/ or assist the patient in completing the enrollment process. • Interview the participant and review electronic medical record in order to complete all sections of the Case Information Form (CIF). c. Assist hospital nursing personal by placing SLEH patient demographic label on the CIF, Sample Processing Form (SPF), Convalescent Sample Processing Form (CSPF), and on all sample tubes and containers. d. Explain to the participant the importance of the second sample. • Hand the participant and appointment card as a reminder for second sample collection. 2. Data Management a. Review data collection forms for accuracy and completeness by comparing the form with participants’ patient electronic medical record or thru review of a hardcopy of the medical record. b. Enter essential data of participants into REDCap that is important for follow-up and monitoring of SEDSS operations. 3. Participant Follow-up a. Provide participant follow-up for collection of second sample and completion of the CSPF. • Research participants thru a phone call if they have been sent home for care from ED to:  Remind participant of second sample collection  Complete the CSPF thru phone interview.
