  Military Police protect lives and property on Army installations by enforcing military laws and regulations, as well as controlling traffic, preventing crime, and responding to emergencies. Military Police are responsible for providing support to the battlefield by conducting Area Security, Internment/Resettlement, Maneuver and Mobility Support, Law & Order, and Police Intelligence Operations. Performs as a team member in support of battlefield operations, installation law and order operations and security of Army resources and installations. Leads military police teams in support of battlefield operations and leads and supervises small sections in support of security and installation law and order operations. Leads military police squads and sections, operates police desks, plans crime prevention measures, operates evidence rooms and prepares operations plans and orders in military police detachments in support of both battlefield and installation law and order operations and security of resources and installations.

  Patrols a designated area of the city on foot, on a motorcycle, or in a radio cruiser to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of a crime, and to enforce traffic and parking regulations. • Answers calls and complaints involving fire, automobile accidents, robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies. • At scene of crime administers first aid, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witnesses, and makes arrests; testifies as a witness in court. • Interviews persons with complaints and inquiries and attempts to make the proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities. • Checks parking meters for overtime parking violations and issues traffic tickets; directs traffic at intersections; participates in escorting funerals and house-movers. • Conducts accident investigations providing first-aid for injured, taking safeguards to prevent further accidents; interviews principals and witnesses, taking written statements from drivers, witnesses; examines vehicles and roadways, observing traffic control devices and obstruction to view; takes necessary street measurements; clears the scene of obstructions and wreckage. • Escorts prisoners to and from court; insures that prisoners are properly guarded; supervises trustees washing cars and cleaning buildings. • Acts as custodian of personal property and evidence being held for court presentation; maintains records of property, evidence, and automobiles held or impounded.

  Navy (Rank E-4) US Naval Base, Norfolk Virginia Machinist's mates operate and maintain steam turbines and reduction gears used for ship propulsion and auxiliary machinery such as turbo generators, pumps and oil purifiers. They also maintain auxiliary machinery outside of main machinery spaces, such as electro hydraulic steering engines and elevators, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and desalinization plants. They may also operate and maintain compressed gas producing plants. The duties performed by MMs include: aligning piping systems for oil, water, air and steam, and controlling the operation of ship boilers and steam turbines used for ship propulsion and service systems; controlling operation of turbo generators used to produce electrical power; cleaning, adjusting, testing and performing other preventive maintenance on a ship's boilers, main engines, turbo generators and other auxiliary machinery including steering engines, elevators, winches, pumps and associated valves; operating and maintaining desalinization plants (distilling plants) to make fresh water from sea water; maintaining refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and galley equipment; repairing or replacing valves, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, steam turbines and hydraulic or pneumatic control devices; making entries in and analyzing machinery operating records and reports.
