The first time I worked with Rad was at Linedata. We were on different teams but talked daily. This is where I learned about his warm friendly personality, and wide programming knowledge across desktop applications, cloud and service based architecture, and machine learning. A couple years after leaving Linedata, I was the looking to hire an experienced engineer that would compliment my skillset, to make my tiny 2-3 person software department at LexaGene more capable. This is when I called Rad and soon hired him. I needed someone who would work independently in an effective way, bring more SOA and cloud experience into the group, challenge my design ideas constructively, and bring their own design ideas to the whiteboard. Rad proved to be the perfect fit, and was highly effective for the 2 years we worked together at LexaGene. He is easily approachable for questions, calm under pressure, thorough and engaged when talking technical design, and very hard working. He is the kind of engineer that really enjoys keeping up with modern approaches, continuously learning, and a regular on Pluralsight. At LexaGene, I few achievements that come to mind were: building a UI service on the instrument greatly simplifying the previous pattern, tackling and solving a pesky memory issue ultimately refactoring the main state machine, actually using WPF/MVVM correctly..., redesigning fault and alert mgmt integrating OpsGenie into the device, help guide the team on how to design cloud resources and authentication, guide the team on a project to use machine learning to more accurately decipher false positives and negatives, and tackle a beast of a project which was programmatically managing Windows updates in a controlled and tested way. The #1 quality of Rad that was helpful as a manager, was that I could expect he had written tests for his new components with very good coverage, and run the test suite, plus updated Jira, reqs and design docs, before even suggesting he was dev complete, every single time. Super thorough, and a pleasure to work with. A great team mate.
