  The Chicago chapter of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program (JETAA Chicago) serves the Chicago region, including Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. The JET Program is one of the largest exchange programs in the world. Each year, thousands of teachers from all over the world travel to Japan to teach English in public elementary, junior and high schools. The program is sponsored by the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR), under the umbrella of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Working with Consulate General of Japan in Chicago, JETAA Chicago promotes and fosters Japanese/American cultural exchange, assists with and facilitates personnel recruitment for the JET Program and provides support & assistance to recent returnees. As President, I: • led the strategic planning and execution of programming for an alumni group of more than 700 members in living Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. • chaired monthly planning meetings, coordinating schedules and setting agendas. • improved the organization’s balance sheet while improving the quality & quantity of events. • expanded JETAA Chicago's presence within the community, strengthening partnerships with the Consulate General of Japan at Chicago, the Japan America Society of Chicago, the Japanese American Service Committee and other related organizations.
