I am accountable for developing and executing curriculum and programming to teach healthy relationship and consent skills. I work closely with the Oklahoma Department of Health Rape Prevention Education team as well as the Oklahoma Prevention Leadership Committee.I joined YWCA Oklahoma City's prevention department in a transitional period for the program and faced many challenges due to fear and lack of interest in the community. People are often afraid that speaking about consent or rape either causes rape or encourages youth to have sex.Successes include increasing the number of schools wanting programming to the point that we had to create a waiting list, creation of YW Oklahoma City's first youth-driven, peer-led prevention committee, and development of a prevention program that is now recognized for its expertise throughout the state.
