New York, NY • Designed, synthesized and characterized four Rh(III) and Ir(III) hydride complexes and studied their electrochemical properties and reactivity towards the regioselective hydrogenation of pyridinium cations. • Developed a remarkably effective Rh hydride catalyst, one million times more efficient than our previously best one, for the hydrogenation of iminium cations. • Discovered the first metal hydride complex that is super-efficient in both hydride and hydrogen atom transfer reactions… Show more • Designed, synthesized and characterized four Rh(III) and Ir(III) hydride complexes and studied their electrochemical properties and reactivity towards the regioselective hydrogenation of pyridinium cations. • Developed a remarkably effective Rh hydride catalyst, one million times more efficient than our previously best one, for the hydrogenation of iminium cations. • Discovered the first metal hydride complex that is super-efficient in both hydride and hydrogen atom transfer reactions, and studied the kinetics and thermodynamics of its hydride, hydrogen atom and proton transfer properties. • Developed room temperature conversion for the chiral-at-metal Ru hydride complexes with > 95 % optical purity, the resolution of which was not achieved over the past decade. Hefei, Anhui, China Worked with Prof. Guangzhao Zhang to study the anti-fouling polymer materials for coating: • Spearheaded a project to make poly(sebacic anhydride)−poly(ethylene glycol) (PSA-co-PEG) block copolymers for anti-fouling materials with self-polishing properties. • Synthesized polyurethanes (PUs) with various amounts of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) by two-step condensation polymerization and studied their anti-fouling properties. • Prepared hydrophobic PU surfaces with branched vinyl groups… Show more Worked with Prof. • Prepared hydrophobic PU surfaces with branched vinyl groups and immobilized zwitterionic poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) (PSBMA) through radical polymerization.
