Rachel was a great asset to PCC. She was a great blend of admin and people oriented. She managed tough issues between demanding parents yet kept pure to the mission of the organization. Rachel always had a great attitude and shared with her colleagues. She was a great blend of professionalism and personal empathy. I highly recommend her for all her pursuits.

With the current pandemic at hand, I decided to stay home this year and homeschool my two preschoolers. I converted part of our garage into a preschool space and am exploring the world of Early Childhood Education! As an experienced Middle School STEM teacher, I'm learning that the minds of a 2 and a 4 year old work very differently than that of 12-14 year olds. Using the California Preschool Learning Foundations as a guide, I've created a curriculum designed to make sure my 4 (almost 5) year old is ready for Kindergarten next August, and that my 2 (almost 3) year old is ready to transition into a non home-based structured learning environment next Fall. Lead students through both science and math curriculum at the middle school level. Designed curriculum to fit a multi-age classroom with a variety of academic and social needs. Differentiated instruction for students with very different learning backgrounds/experiences. Supported students with IEPs (about 50% of the school population) through creative and thoughtful lesson planning. Integrated technology into the classroom in a meaningful way. Attended IEP meetings and worked with families to support students with learning/behavioral differences. Show less

In Science, for 6th, 7th and 8th, I use an inquiry based model. Students are introduced to a topic, encouraged to ask questions (inquire) and then complete hands on activities (engage) to aid in finding the answer to those questions. This is then supplemented by class discussion and presentation of important information (explain) before evaluating the content learned and extending that new knowledge further.

I used the Everyday Mathematics curriculum for 6th grade math: reviewing concepts from multiplication & division of fractions/decimals to teaching new concepts like solving simple equations.
