Rachel has impressive skills, work ethic, and a great personal and professional interest in the library profession. Her intellectual curiosity propels her forward even life’s pressures become taxing. In addition to arriving punctually and ready to work, Rachel excelled during her initial training with me, asking thoughtful questions, and was always willing to fill in for coworkers as needed. She was a great member of my team, and I wouldn't hesitate to work with her again should the opportunity arise.

I assisted in creating and expanding PHPL's Library of Things. This involved helping to choose and buy the materials (including board and yard games), cataloging the items, creating the procedures and marketing the new collection.I worked with a colleague to integrate wireless printing.I was project manager for our library's RFID integration project during 2020-2022. I led staff and volunteers in tagging 95000+ items, assisted with the installation of our new self-check machine and security gates, downloaded the necessary software, and taught our staff to use our new RFID readers during checkout and checkin procedures. I was the primary contact for Envisionware, our RFID technology company.I led volunteers and oversaw the digitization of historical documents, photographs, and yearbooks into a searchable database through sponsorship from our library system and Recollection Wisconsin.I supervise the 3 part-time staff members in this department. Our department acquires, processes, and mends materials from the library's collection. This includes all A/V, monograph, serial, and non-traditional items, including wi-fi hotspots and fitness kits. In 2021, our department processed 8,405 items.Oversaw collection, scanning, metadata entry, digitization, online publication and marketing ofPauline Haass Public Library Historic Digital Collection. Partnered with Sussex-Lisbon AreaMuseum and worked with volunteers and Recollection Wisconsin staff to complete this project(November 2019-October 2020).I volunteered to lead the system's cataloging group for 2019, leading meetings, writing agendas, and communicating messages to the group. • Sep 2014 - Apr 2019

I cataloged all of our library's new materials (Professional, Children's, Young Adult, and Adult). I also maintained the multi-library catalog and update current library records as the catalog evolves. I interacted with patrons of all ages and answer questions regarding location of and requesting materials, reading/viewing recommendations and read/view/listen-alikes, questions about the library, questions regarding the Internet, technology (including computer, e-reader, tablet, and digital library use), job-searching, and job applications. I have also proctored exams and worked with tutors and parents to find materials appropriate for elementary, middle, high-school, and ESL students.I read reviews of materials, including fiction and non-fiction books, graphic novels, manga, young adult materials, films, music, and audiobooks, and then order materials based on ratings and demand.I helped coordinate and prepare for programs, which included summer/winter reading programs for adults and teens, contests, letterboxing in the library, displays, and reading lists, which varied from conservative reads for teens, to spy thrillers for adults, to space operas, to Outlander series read-alikes. I participated in putting together library programs such as "Blind Date with a Book!" during which I chose less-well known genre books from our shelves and paired them with phrases such as "heartwarming," or "chilling," so that after they had been wrapped, patrons could try choosing a book without seeing its cover.I created read-alike lists which have been posted to the OPAC so patrons searching for "Game of Thrones" or books by Jodi Picoult can find alternative titles if their book is checked out. I assisted with the creation of a new non-fiction section, “Lifestyle,” which included books on beauty and style. I created lists of read-alikes for popular authors, such as James Patterson, Debbie Macomber, and Janet Evanovich. I cut these lists out onto bookmark-sized paper and hung them on the shelves next to their respective author’s collections. I also did this with series’ order. I integrated “Promotions” into the OPAC, which were searchable details about the library’s programs. This helped me to become familiar with the many programs offered to adults and children in the library.I participated in shifting many of the nonfiction collections and weeding the Large Print, Young Adult Graphic Novel and Manga collections, as well as choosing and ordering new titles to add to the library's collections.I put together displays, including “Amazon’s 100 Top Mystery and Suspense Novels” (also recommended books to buy based on this list), a “Green” book display (included books of different genres, all with green covers), a young adult “Poet-tree” display (for Poetry Month), an exercise display (with exercise books and DVDs), and finally, a young adult “Great First Lines” display, featuring books with unforgettable first lines.
